A dissertation is among the most seriously scrutinized academic papers all over the world. It will follow you wherever you go and will determine the direction of your career. The title page ushers a reader into your work. It says a lot about the quality to be expected of you. A title page that is diligently written gives an indication that the rest of the work is equality meticulous. It is therefore important to generate a good title page for your work.

Organizing the Title Page of Your Dissertation

The title of your work should be placed about a third-way down the title page. It should not contain any underlining or bold letters. In case the length goes beyond one line, ensure that it is double spaced for clarity. The title should be centered using a clear format. The recommended format for MLA is Times New Roman. This font should also be used throughout the paper.

Your name should be centered about half way through the page. Use the official name used to identify you in the department. Avoid initials or nicknames. Further about two-thirds way down the page, include a declaration that the dissertation is submitted for such and such purpose. This statement should capture the qualification you seek to get upon acceptance of your dissertation. Include the name of the department and institution as well.

The name of your supervisor(s) appears right below this declaration. Use relevant titles that make it easier to identify the person in the department. The spacing between all details on this page should be double. The last item on the title page is the date of submission or completion. Use the format of Month, Day, and the Year.

There are no numbers on the title page. In fact, it does not count during numbering. All the margins used on Chicago format are 1-inch. No decorations are allowed on the title page. This means that boarders, underlines and italics are unwelcome.
